How long does it take to become a certified Kundalini yoga instructor?

A minimum of 200 hours, typically a 25-day residential immersion or a longer part-time online format.

What's the difference between Kundalini yoga teacher and instructor?

Functionally none. Instructor is more common in KRI and 3HO terminology, where graduates are described as KRI Certified Instructors. Teacher is used more broadly across other lineages, including Satyananda-based programs.

Do I need prior experience to become certified?

No. Beginners can enter legitimate Kundalini yoga teacher-training programs. Complete beginners may benefit from building a short daily practice for a few weeks before enrolling.

Is a 100-hour Kundalini yoga certification enough to teach?

A 100-hour program on its own is not sufficient for RYT-200 registration. It may provide foundational training or continuing education for an already registered yoga teacher, depending on the program and applicable requirements.

Can I become certified entirely online?

Yes, some Kundalini yoga teacher-training programs are offered entirely online. A live, cohort-based format with instructor interaction, teaching methodology and a practicum provides substantially more structured training than a self-paced video library.

How do I verify a Kundalini yoga certification is legitimate?

Confirm the lineage, the certifying organization's credentials, the instructor's qualifications, the curriculum and whether the program has the specific Yoga Alliance registration or recognition it claims. Be cautious of vague claims such as internationally recognized when no specific registry or credential is identified.

Do I have to choose a lineage before starting Kundalini yoga teacher training?

It is important to understand the lineage before enrolling because different Kundalini traditions use different techniques, teaching methods and certification structures. The KRI tradition and Satyananda lineage, for example, have substantially different approaches.

Can I switch Kundalini yoga lineages after certifying in one?

Yes. However, switching lineages generally involves additional training because the techniques, curriculum and certification structures can differ between traditions.

How many continuing education hours do I need to maintain my yoga certification?

Continuing education requirements depend on the specific credential and registering organization. For Yoga Alliance credentials, teachers should check the current Yoga Alliance continuing education and teaching requirements directly because requirements can change.
